Partner Enablement Checklist

Practical guidance on partner enablement checklist for Shopify app founders.

Partner Onboarding · ~5 min read

Partner enablement is making sure a partner has everything they need to refer you successfully — and nothing they don't. This chapter pulls the whole onboarding section into one checklist you can run against every new partner, so no one falls through the cracks because you forgot to send their link or never gave them a demo. Enablement isn't a document you write once; it's a repeatable standard every partner should clear before you count on them to refer.

Access — can they refer at all?

  • Their unique referral link, and a place they can always find it again.
  • A clear view of what they earn and how they get paid.
  • Somewhere to see their referrals and earnings, so progress is visible.
  • A known way to get help — a person, an email, a channel.

Assets — can they refer easily?

  • A pasteable one-line and short-paragraph description of your app.
  • A demo link and a couple of current screenshots.
  • The offer (what the partner earns, what the merchant gets) in one line.
  • For presenting partners: a short demo video or a simple deck.

Action — have they actually started?

  • One specific first action defined and asked for (share with a client, add to a template).
  • A first action actually taken in week one.
  • The link embedded somewhere repeatable in their workflow within the first month.

Follow-through — will they keep going?

  • A helpful (not pushy) nudge sent if they stalled early.
  • Their first result acknowledged when it lands.
  • A day-30 read on whether they're active, slow, or dormant — with your time allocated to match.

How to use this checklist

Run it against every new partner and treat a gap as an action, not a note. If a partner is dormant, walk back up the list — did they have the link, the assets, a clear first action? Most 'this partner won't activate' problems are actually 'we skipped a step' problems. The checklist turns enablement from something you hope you did into something you can verify.

Practical checklist

  • Access: referral link, earnings clarity, a visibility view, and a help channel
  • Assets: pasteable description, demo link, current screenshots, one-line offer
  • Action: a defined first action, taken in week one, then embedded in their workflow
  • Follow-through: an early nudge, first result acknowledged, a day-30 active/slow/dormant read
  • Every gap treated as an action to fix, not just a note

Common mistakes

  • Assuming a partner is enabled without checking they actually have link, assets, and a first action
  • Blaming a dormant partner for not activating when a step was skipped
  • Treating enablement as a one-time doc instead of a standard every partner clears

How this works in PartnerDock

PartnerDock covers most of the access and follow-through checklist automatically: approved partners get a portal with their referral links, a live view of referrals and earnings, and payout requests, while funnel metrics show you the day-30 active/slow/dormant read — and you can email partners the missing pieces from the dashboard.

FAQ

What is partner enablement?+

Making sure a partner has everything needed to refer you successfully — access (link, earnings clarity, visibility, help), assets (description, demo, offer), a first action, and follow-through — and nothing wasted. It's a repeatable standard you run against every partner, not a one-time document.

Why won't my partners activate?+

Usually because a step was skipped, not because the partner is unwilling. Walk back up the enablement checklist — did they have their link, ready-to-use assets, and one clear first action? Most 'won't activate' problems are actually 'we didn't fully enable them' problems.
