Choosing SaaS Affiliate Software: No Caps, 0% Payout Fees, Flat Pricing

What actually matters when picking SaaS affiliate software: honest pricing, accurate attribution, and terms that do not rewrite themselves. A buyer guide for founders.

The pricing trap

Most SaaS affiliate tools are priced to grow with your success in the wrong direction. The more revenue your affiliates drive, the more you pay, either as a percentage of tracked revenue or a step up to the next tier. It feels fine at launch and starts to hurt exactly when the program is working. The better question to ask a vendor is simple: does my bill go up because my affiliates did their job? If the answer is yes, you are renting a tax, not buying software.

Attribution you can defend

Pricing gets the headlines, but attribution is what affiliates actually judge you on. Ask how a conversion is credited when it happens weeks after the click, on a different device, after a trial. A tool that leans only on a last-click cookie will miscredit a real share of your conversions, and your partners will notice. Prefer software that ties the referral to the signup and reads paid revenue from your billing system, Stripe or Paddle, so the credit is deterministic rather than a guess.

Terms that do not rewrite themselves

When you change a commission rate, what happens to partners who already signed up? Good software snapshots the terms each referral was created under, so existing partners keep their deal and only new referrals use the new rate. Tools that recompute everything against the latest rate quietly rewrite history and erode trust.

A portal partners will actually use

Your affiliates want their link, their numbers, and their payouts in one place, updated in real time. A clear partner portal reduces the where is my commission emails to near zero and makes good affiliates want to keep promoting you.

A short checklist

  • Flat pricing with no revenue caps and no cut of your payouts.
  • Attribution tied to the account, not just a browser cookie.
  • Versioned terms, so changes never rewrite existing deals.
  • Native billing connection for Stripe or Paddle.
  • A self-serve portal with real-time earnings for partners.
